A Cozy Winter Date at Kohl’s Stony Hill Tree Farm

Kohl’s Stony Hill Tree Farm

There’s something magical about finding that perfect tree, the one that feels like yours. But at Kohl’s Stony Hill Tree Farm in Milton, Pennsylvania, the experience is so much more than just picking out a Christmas tree. It’s a cozy, small-town date that brings out all the nostalgic feels of the season. Hot cocoa in hand (optional) and rows upon rows of evergreens waiting to go home with you.

Kohl’s Stony Hill Tree Farm has been spreading holiday cheer since 1986. It all started when the Kohl family bought a rundown 39-acre farm with about 2,000 evergreen trees already planted. That first year, they hauled trees to the family’s market a few miles away and sold out.

Fast forward to today, and the farm has grown into a winter wonderland with 30,000 trees to choose from, over 100,000 ornaments in their Christmas Shop, and the largest collection of Christmas tree stands in the world, according to the Guinness Book of World Records.

While the Christmas season might be the highlight, Kohl’s offers year-round fun from corn mazes and giant lawn games to pumpkin chunkin’ and Easter egg hunts.

Shane and I actually stumbled upon Kohl’s Stony Hill Tree Farm by accident. We were living in Stillwater, PA at the time. Funny enough, we grew up just ten minutes apart and never met until college! It was Easter weekend, and we saw an event for an Adult Easter Egg Hunt on Facebook. (To this day, we’re not sure if it was really for adults, or if we just assumed it was…)

When we arrived, we had no idea what we were walking into.

Stepping inside the main building felt like walking straight into Christmas on steroids. Every inch was covered in ornaments, every kind you could imagine. Want an ornament shaped like your favorite country? They’ve got it. Looking for one that looks like your dog? Every breed is there. Childhood nostalgia? I bought a Furby ornament!

There’s something magical around every corner, and the deeper you wander, the more surprises you find.

If you’re in the area and are wanting a cozy winter date idea, this spot is a must.

Plan to spend about two hours exploring the shop and walking the grounds. Think of an ornament you may want to find, and make it a challenge. Give yourself time to browse, laugh, and hunt. (Decide on a “theme” before you go — like “find the weirdest ornament” or “find something that reminds us of our first date.”)

If you go during other seasons, there’s always something happening. Easter egg hunts in spring, pumpkin picking, pumpkin chucking and corn mazes in fall, and hayrides!

And if you’re visiting from out of town, don’t forget to pin your spot on their visitor map! My grandpa proudly marked his from Clearwater, Florida, and I added ours from Rochester, NY — though it looks like we weren’t the only ones from there!

Before you head home, stop by Burkholder’s Farm Market nearby if you’re heading that direction out of Milton. It’s the perfect way to round out your day. They’ve got delicious Amish baked goods, fresh produce, bulk foods, and hearty subs if you’ve worked up an appetite from ornament hunting.

Whether you’re local to Central PA or just passing through, Kohl’s Stony Hill Tree Farm makes for a fun stop. It’s one of those quirky roadside destinations that we live for when we’re on our road trips! You know, the kind of place that makes you slow down, smile, and make memories that will last forever.
